Sermon for This Coming Sunday, September 18

“Life’s Not Fair – and Neither Is God”
Texts: Jonah 4:6-11; Matthew 20:1-16

Fairness – kids have an acute sense of it.  If you give a 10 year old one big piece of cake, and a four year old two small pieces of cake equaling the big one, the four year old will object.

But let’s face it – we adults have a pretty clear understanding of fairness, too.  If you have ever had a boss who was less capable than you, or discovered that a person with less experience was making more money, or if you’ve ever been passed over for a promotion in favor of someone less qualified, then you might have thought, “It’s not fair!”

And you’re right – life isn’t fair.

And neither is God.  The world might be pretty clear on who’s deserving and who isn’t, who belongs and who doesn’t, who’s up and who’s down, who’s our equal and who isn’t.  But God shows us another way.
We hope you will join us for worship this Sunday at 10 am at the First Congregational Church of Stoughton, United Church of Christ, 76 Pierce Street, Stoughton, MA.
