This Sunday's Sermon

“Turning Tables”

John 2:13-16

When you think of Jesus, do you picture someone who is gentle and passive?  Then fasten your seatbelts, for this Sunday’s scripture lesson dispels any characterizations of Jesus as a doormat or pushover.  The Jesus who turns over the tables of the moneychangers is furious, fuming, and short-fused.  Not meek and mild, but a man of action, even rage.

Not only does this Jesus make us uncomfortable, but it essentially sealed his fate; biblical scholars think that his cleansing of the temple is the primary reason for the charges against him that led to his death.

So, what made him so angry anyway?

Come to worship and find out – 10 am this Sunday, March 11, at the First Congregational Church of Stoughton, an Open and Affirming Congregation of the United Church of Christ, 76 Pierce Street, Stoughton, MA.

No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you’re welcome here!
