9/11 10th Anniversary Stoughton Community Service of Remembrance -- Sunday, September 11 at 7 pm, First Congregational Church, 76 Pierce Street, Stoughton, MA

On September 11, 2001, four passenger planes were highjacked by terrorists.  Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center (WTC) in New York City, causing huge fires that led to the collapse of the towers less than two hours later.  One plane crashed into the Pentagon building in Washington, DC.  The last plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania; it is believed the hijackers had planned to also crash this plane into a building or landmark, but were foiled by the actions of the plane's passengers.

Many of these horrific events, including the second plane's crash into the WTC and the collapse of the towers, were witessed live by millions of television viewers.  It was by far the worst terrorist attack on American soil.  Nearly 3,000 people died.

It has been 10 years since that tragic day, but we will never forget.  And so, on Sunday, September 11, 2011, a Stoughton Community Service of Remembrance, sponsored by the Stoughton Clergy Association, will be held at the First Congregational Church, 76 Pierce Street, Stoughton, beginning at 7 pm.

This will be an opportunity for people of all faiths to come together to pray, to sing, to light a candle, and to remember.  Open to all -- Everyone welcome.  We hope you will join us.

In addition, we are forming a special Community Choir to sing at this service.  If you would like to be part of this choir, please come to rehearsals at the First Congregational Church on Wednesday, August 31, from 7 to 9 pm and also Wednesday, September 7, from 7 to 8 pm.
