Sunday
Evening Lenten Study
"BENEATH THE CROSS:
LETTERS
FROM A GOOD FRIDAY WORLD"
Sundays, 7 to 8:30 pm
This study focuses on a fictional series of letters that were
"written" on Good Friday immediately after the death of Jesus. The letters could
not be mailed the next day, as it was the Sabbath. By Sunday, the world had
changed. These "letters" are intended to teach and to provoke thought about the
importance of Christ's resurrection.
These studies are not cumulative, so if you were not able to join
us last week, please feel free to join us this week.

We are still working on the same types of projects---making quilts
for the homeless shelters, items for Church World Service kits, and Mending Kits
for Seafarer's Friend. Each of these projects have many steps that need a
variety of skills. Most of them are very easy and relaxing to do.
Is there something here
you would be able to do?
For our quilts we cut squares, coordinate the fabrics into pleasing
color combinations, sew them together and then plan the face of a
quilt.
For the CWS kits, we assemble the materials that are needed for each,
and put them all together. That might be making a baby sweater or purchasing a
baby sweatshirt; or making or buying baby nightdresses and undershirts; buying
cloth diapers, or purchasing some of the small items that need to be a part of a
layette.
Our School kits need children's blunt end scissors and fabric bags to
pack all of the already purchased materials.
At our January meeting we cut fleece into 50 scarves for the Boston
City Mission project, tied a quilt, and then began coordinating fabric squares
so that they are ready to be sewn into blocks.
Some of the above projects can be done at home if you can not come to
our 3rd Tuesday
meetings. Speak to Amy Fowler, Peggy Webster, Bev Richards, Betty Moore, Dana
Barnes, or Janet Clough-we'll give you details of how you can be a part of this
outreach ministry.
Our next meeting will be on February 21stin one
of the Sunday School rooms from 9am to 2pm. Bring your lunch, we'll have
beverage and desert for you. Looking forward to many new hands. Come join us!

You are
invited to
Student
Pastor Lance Wiser's
LENTEN
BIBLE STUDY
I invite you all to attend a Lenten Bible Study I am leading entitled
"The Terrible Surprise of Hospitality." We will begin at 11:30 am and finish up
before 1:00 pm on February 26, March 4, 11, 18, and 25.
On the first Sunday, I will give a presentation of my recent
wonderful, yet jarring travels to the Holy Land. There is much to share! From
the Holy sites of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs down to the sites affiliated
with Jesus' ministry... From a day spent in the Israeli Holocaust museum,
Yad
Vashem, to a night spent in a
Palestinian refugee camp... Come and participate in these stories.
On the subsequent Sundays, we will take a biblical story - two from
the Old Testament and two from the New Testament - pertaining to hospitality and
weave them into the narratives that have come out of this Holy Land experience,
and to also see how they connect with our own lives.
It is my hope that this will be an engaging experience that will
challenge our perception of the Holy Land, deepen our understanding of the
Abrahamic Religions, and practice further what Christianity teaches us about
hospitality.
I hope you will join us!
Lance Wiser,
Student Pastor

On Sunday morning when you
are sitting in worship and see the beautiful altar flowers, have you ever
thought you would like to sponsor them? Here is how you can!
Located on the
board outside of Fellowship Hall is a sign up poster made by Alyssa
McGillicuddy! Along with the poster are forms to fill out. We need your name
and if the flowers are in honor, memory or celebration of someone.
The cost to
sponsor a standard arrangement is $25.00. If you would like to make a special
request, you can do so by contacting our church florist, Nancy Sullivan at
781-254-6261.
For special orders we ask for at least a weeks notice and an
additional cost may be incurred. Checks can be made out to Nancy Sullivan, or
if you would like it to be tax deductible, to the First Congregational Church
with altar flowers on the memo line.
Once you have completed your form and
enclosed your check you can leave it in the church office or in the offering
plate.
If you have any questions you can contact Leanne Kerman (Chair of
Deacons) or Gale DeBeneditto @781-344-4728.
